File resource manager bug in Server 2008

There is a bug in Server 2008 (SBS 2008 as well) when you have enabled file resource manager. For instance if you have enabled it on the same disk volume as your Sysvol folder you are no longer able to save new GPO’e even though you haven’t made any restrictions for *.ini. You will get an error in the GPO Management console saying: “The data present in the reparse point buffer is invalid” Remove the role and reboot and your problem ill be fixed, I have heard that Microsoft is working on a hotfix for this.

DNS bug in SBS 2008

It seems that there is yet another bug in SBS 2008. When using root hints in DNS, the service stops working after a while (1-2 days) and you have to flush the cache to get it going again. In services it states that it is started and running but it cannot make any DNS lookups. However if you use forwarders there is no problem… And again it is not appearing on all installations so I have not found a trend yet.

Windows Small Business Server 2008 bug in Exchange

There appears to be a bug in SBS 2008 with some installations that causes Exchange to prompt for a product key even though it should not. The funny part is that the first article in Help describes the fact that the product key is no longer entered during installation and you should rememeber to enter it. But where do we get this key??? So as long as you do not enter the key, Exchange will be in trial mode which means it will run for 90 days.

After talking with MS tech support they told me that the problem did not exist but unofficially a tool/update is on the way and should be released in the nearest future, probably in february.

Updated: you can download the tool from http://rahman.eu/ActivateExchange.exe

I have made a lot of clean installlations where this appearantly is not a problem so it must be something in the migration, but I cannot confirm this without further testing.
